Common Neck Disorders We Treat:
- Headache
- Joint Stiffness
- Muscle Strains and Tension
- Degenerative Disc Disease & Injuries
Typical Causes
- Reduced range of motion due to muscular weakness and muscle imbalance; joint stiffness and muscle inflexibility that lead to poor posture.
- Injuries occur when the tissue is subjected to a rapid load or impact.
- Because of prior injuries or the fear of future injuries, some muscle groups are avoided while other tissues are overused as a chronic compensating strategy.
Kin Physical Therapy and Performance’s Approach
- Maintain the correct posture for the neck and midback region.
- Alleviate tension in the upper neck muscles.
- Enhance flexibility in both the chest and neck muscles.
- Utilize manipulation, manual joint mobilization, and manual traction to enhance joint movement.
- Strengthen muscles responsible for neck flexion and shoulder blade movement more efficiently.
- Employ techniques such as massage, instrument-assisted mobilization, and cupping to enhance tissue flexibility.
- Incorporate targeted nerve exercises to minimize nerve sensitivity (reducing numbness, tingling, and arm pain).
- Develop functional and plyometric exercises involving activities like throwing, catching, pushing, pulling, and pressing.
Key Points to Keep in Mind
- Tissues have the ability to recover. The body's natural healing process can sometimes get stuck in the inflammation phase of tissue repair, requiring external assistance to transition into full recovery.
- Results from MRI and X-ray scans often have a limited correlation with the actual source of pain. Imaging might uncover tissue damage even in the absence of pain or functional limitations. Conversely, pain might persist without significant findings on imaging, mainly due to heightened sensitivity in nervous tissues.
- Post-exercise soreness should not always be a cause for concern, as it is a natural response. Genuine strength improvements require subjecting the body to an overload that leads to minor tissue damage. This damaged tissue subsequently regenerates to become stronger and more robust. The level of soreness can serve as an indicator of whether the tissue is prepared for increased stress. If the tissue isn't ready, training intensity should be scaled back until it is adequately prepared.
- In most cases, a return to previous or desired activities is achievable by following proper guidance, adhering to correct biomechanics, and gradually increasing tissue exposure to stress.

What People Say About KIN PT and Performance
I'm on day 3 of pulling my back.
Slowly have been recovering from being completely bed ridden (I crawled to go to the bathroom).
Before the session i was able to walk but not much without corset support.
After following couple of exercises, I feel a lot confident with walking and no longer need help to get up or lay down.
I'm so glad I called in!

I am so glad that I found Steve to help me tackle my lower back pain! From the get-go, Steve was transparent with how he could practically help me and provided clarity and insight into the pain I was feeling. He clearly broke down by pain symptom, listened to my physical goals, and devised a clear course to recovery for me to follow.

I worked with Steve to rehab a climbing related TFCC injury and couldn't recommend his expertise enough! Steve was patient, thorough, and supportive while guiding me through my recovery.
Upfront, he communicated clearly about the cause of my injury, and what to expect during the recovery. He took time to listen to my goals and concerns, and made sure to tailor the recovery plan to them. The personalized program also proved to be very effective. Following the plan, I was able to see improvement right away. A few weeks later, I'm back on the wall with no pain! Being a climber himself, Steve also gave me great climbing advice and insights on injury prevention in the long run. Now I feel more confident in achieving my fitness goals thanks to Steve. I couldn't have asked for a better experience and outcome!
